Beat the summer heat in Monaco

There are two great ways to cool down when the Riviera sun is so hot that it frazzles your brain.

First find a refreshing ice-cream sorbet, preferably raspberry, and add a coating of chocolate because, well, everything tastes better with chocolate.

Chocolatier Pierre Marcolini is offering exactly that in Monaco, at a pop-up, static van on the allée François Blanc.

You can choose from several sorbets and traditional ice-creams, each served on a lollipop stick and coated with your favourite chocolate: dark, milk or white.

Take a seat at a white garden table by the van and eat your lolly fast before the ice-cream dribbles down your fingers.

Whilst savouring the fruity ice and rich chocolate, you may notice, as did I, the apparatus by which my second cooling suggestion can be put into practice.

On one side of the terrace there's a large ventilation outlet, over which a mini Marilyn Monroe skipped to and fro, gripping the frilly hem of her skirt which billowed out in the updraft.

A breeze round the knees and an ice-cream lolly. What better way to beat the summer heat.
