The Harvard Krokodiloes: students swing in sweltering heat

They say that only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun. We now also know that Americans are happy to jitterbug in tuxedos when the temperature rises above 30 degrees.

It was yesterday evening, and MonacoUSA's cosmopolitan crowd had gathered at Stars n Bars Stardeck to network and be entertained by a group of twelve Harvard University students. The impeccably dressed young men are members of a glee club called The Krokodiloes, currently on tour with their a-cappella repertoire of jazz and swing standards.

It was a joyful event. Most of the songs were accompanied by humorous mimicry of the lyrics, which provoked smiles and chuckles from the audience. Outstanding numbers included Runaway (originally a hit for Del Shannon), Just My Imagination (The Temptations), and the previously mentioned, heat-defying, jitterbug-inducing In the Mood (Glenn Miller). The audience clapped and cheered and demanded two encores, the last of which, Cole Porter's American song book classic, Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye, ended the set.

  1. Thanks, it was a lovely evening with a real "community" vibe. Lucky to have such talented performers...and an appreciative audience!
